Suffolk County Court House (second) is built.
December 20, 1812
Architect: Charles Bulfinch. Later called Johnson Hall, the octagonal building is built of Chelmsford granite and located at today’s 45 School Street. It is replaced by a new building (third) in 1822.* The original building is renovated by Gridley F.X. Bryant and Thomas Preston in 1840, used as Boston City Hall beginning in 1841, demolished to make way for construction of what comes to be known as Old City Hall in 1863.*
